Former Fort Worth Mayor Kenneth Barr Accepts Appointment to Sandlot Board of Directors 

FORT WORTH, TX, Nov. 30, 2010– Former Fort Worth Mayor Kenneth Barr has joined the board of directors for Sandlot, LLC, a healthcare IT solutions company founded by practicing physicians who have determined a better way to collectively share clinical information.

                                                                    

SandlotConnect®, the company’s signature health information exchange (HIE), enables providers to meaningfully use electronic health records. More than 1,500 care providers exchange information in SandlotConnect®, including 375 physicians and their staff who update the exchange with more than 50,000 patient records daily. SandlotConnect® has more than 1.5 million patient records in its repository.

 

“Sandlot is playing a significant role in the healthcare industry by enabling doctors to provide a higher quality of care,” said Barr, who was elected Fort Worth’s mayor four times. “I look forward to working with this remarkable team of doctors who are dedicated to improving healthcare.”

 

The company’scurrent board of directors includes practicing physicians: Dr. Thomas Deas, Jr., Dr. Julian Armstrong and Dr. Stuart Pickell; practicing surgeon Dr. Antonio A. Castaneda; and cardiologist Dr. Theodore Takata.

Though Barr’s tenure as mayor ended in 2003, he continues to remain actively involved in many civic and business-related affairs in the North Texas community. Barr also serves on boards for Plaza Medical Center, the North Texas Tollway Authority, the North Texas Super Bowl XLV Host Committee, Botanical Research Institute of Texas and Greater Fort Worth Real Estate Council.  The Mental Health Connection established the Kenneth Barr award to recognize exemplary collaborative efforts and extraordinary contributions to improving the mental health system in Tarrant County.
